Nuevos Cielos y Nueva Tierra

V. 17 – “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth” – God will create a completely new spiritual order. The coming of the Messiah will introduce a new spiritual order. Paul calls this new order “a dispensation (arrangement) of the fullness of the times” when all things will be summed up (brought together under one head) in Christ (Eph. 1:10).

-- Isaiah’s new heavens and new earth are the new arrangement to which Paul refers.

Jer. 3:16.

-- “And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind”; that is, before this new arrangement all old dispensations must pass away. Jer. 3:16.

Heb. 12:27, 28.

-- This means that the previous system (under the law of Moses) that included a physical nation and geographical area, animal sacrifices, ceremonial rites, would be completely removed. Heb. 12:27, 28.

-- As Paul says in 2 Cor. 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

V. 18, 19 – They were to rejoice forever “in the things that I have made” – the new spiritual order (the kingdom of Christ). 35:10.

Heb. 12:22; Apoc. 21:2.

-- “For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people.” (62:5). Jerusalem = my people. Heb. 12:22; Rev. 21:2.

-- “The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying.” In the previous chapters God shared the affliction of His people, but “the former things have passed away” and in Christ there is complete joy and happiness (25:9).

V. 20 – “No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days.” Time is not an element to be reckoned with because with God 1000 years are as one day and one day as 1000 years (Ps. 90:4; 2 Pet. 3:8).

-- In the new order each citizen will fulfill his mission in the purpose of God. Some like Stephen will do so in few days and others like Paul and John will do so during a longer period of time.

-- And the sinner, regardless of the length of his days, is condemned.

V. 21, 22 – This indicates that the providential care of God will provide security and permanence and supply every need.

-- The people of the new order will not be robbed of their inheritance and the fruit of their labors (62:8, 9).

-- The days of the people of Jehovah will be like the days of trees, symbol of longevity, permanence, beauty and fruitfulness (61:3; Ps. 1:3; Jer. 17:7, 8).

V. 23 – In the years past the people worked for that which does not satisfy (55:2) and wearied themselves following their own ways (57:10), but now it will be different. Their labor in the new order will not be in vain (1 Cor. 15:58).

V. 24 – God promises to answer their prayers (55:8; Ps. 145:18, 19), but He will respond before they ask because He knows their needs (Matt. 6:8) and will have already made provisions for them.

-- This does not mean that there would be no need to pray, but that “the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers." (Ps. 34:15; 1 Pet. 3:12)

-- Therefore His people should not be anxious, but should cast all their anxiety on God (Phil. 4:6-7; 1 Pet. 5:7).

V. 25 – This verse proves that this text (v. 17-25) belongs to the Messianic period (11:6-9). Under the reign of the Messiah the animal characteristics that we possess will be changed by the Spirit through the gospel. Eph. 2:13-22; 4:22-32.

-- “My holy mountain” is the kingdom of Christ. 2:2-4; Heb. 12:22.

-- “Dust shall be the serpent’s food” refers to Gen. 3:14 and means the defeat of Satan by Christ, 1 Jn. 3:8; Heb. 2:14.

2 Ped. 3:10-13

2 Pet. 3:10-13

-- V. 10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

-- This language is not figurative. Peter speaks of the literal earth as in v. 6.

-- Then after this, there will be “new heavens and a new earth,” v. 13.

Conclusión.

-- Cristo no promete paz mundial.

-- Christ does not promise world peace. 2:2-4; 11:6-9 describe conditions in the spiritual reign of Christ (that is, His church).

-- But rather, He promises peace between the Christian and God and among Christians themselves.

-- This change is compared to domesticated animals and is effected by means of the proclamation of the gospel and the knowledge of the will of God.

-- The fulfillment of these prophecies begins on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) when 3000 Jews obeyed the gospel. It continued being fulfilled with the conversion of the Samaritans (Acts 8:12) and that of the gentiles. This began with the conversion of Cornelius (Acts 10,11) and continues until the end of the world.
